With roots deeply anchored in the Napa Valley, William Hill Estate crafts luxury Chardonnay and Bordeaux varietal wines from the undiscovered vineyards of California’s most celebrated regions. Beginning with William Hill Estate’s 140-acre benchland vineyard near the Silverado Trail, Winemaker Mark Williams turns to the hidden corners of southern Napa, the North Coast and the Central Coast to create a unique collection of rich, expressive wines.

The grapes for our William Hill Estate Napa Valley Chardonnay were harvested by hand and gently pressed as whole clusters. The majority of this wine was fermented at an ambient cellar temperature of 65°F, with selected juice lots racked off gross lees to retain the fine lees for fermentation. Following primary fermentation, the majority of this wine underwent malolactic fermentation and sur lie aging in a combination of new and used oak barrels. The lees were stirred by hand weekly through the winter and early spring to enhance the creamy mouthfeel of this Chardonnay. Only the finest, most expressive lots made it into the final blend.
We selected grapes from several distinct Napa Valley growing regions to create a dynamic Chardonnay. A portion of this regional blend was grown in the warm St. Helena AVA, where growing conditions give us bright tropical flavors and a round, plush mouthfeel. We also looked to the cool, foggy vineyards of the renowned Carneros region for the crisp acidity and nuanced citrus and tree fruit flavors that are hallmarks of the region. The dry 2015 growing season included an early harvest that produced low yields but high quality grapes. The fruit picked featured nuanced flavors that were smooth, rich, and understated.
