Description

Adjoining the Heiligenstein to the east, this area has a pronounced southern exposure and an average slope of approximately 11%. The lower section consists of strongly calcareous chernozem derived from loess with some crystalline debris over gravel. In the upper section, gneiss and lenses of amphibolite outcrop, with remnants of loess remaining in some places. The soil there is a calcareous, unconsolidated brown earth with varying degrees of coarse material. Where bedrock is exposed, a sessile brown earth develops, which is lime-free over the gneiss but can be calcareous in the amphibolite areas.
