Description
Familia Mayol, a family-owned winery with a rich heritage, has its roots in three generations of grape growers who transitioned into winemaking. The winery was founded in 1999. Located in the Uco Valley, the high-altitude vineyards benefit from the region’s exceptional terroir, allowing the cultivation of remarkable quality grapes. Sustainability lies at the heart of Familia Mayol’s approach to viticulture, implementing sustainable farming practices to preserve the environment and ensure the long-term viability of their vineyards. Owner and winemaker Matias Mayol, a third-generation vintner, took over vineyard management in 2006, following in the footsteps of his grandfather, who left Spain for Mendoza in the early 1900s. Working organically, Matias farms some of the best singular vineyards in Mendoza, where diverse varietals thrive due to the unique temperature variations. Hand-harvesting and open fermention with indigenous yeast, creates exceptional wines, such as their Old Vine Malbec “Finca Montuiri,” sourced from a single block of vines planted in 1926 at 3,020 feet, making it one of the highest altitude vineyards in the world.
