Description

To the south of Touraine, at the gates of Poitou, Richelieu had discovered his duchy-meadow. He built a castle and a city there (17th century).
Not far from there, in Razines, a green islet “La Garrelière” has been in wine-growing land for more than three centuries. On this hill (130 m above sea level), the vines receive the best sunshine and produce a local wine. Today 20 hectares of vines (more than 60 ha at the beginning of the 20th century) surround the property and its 18th century cellars. Forests, diversity of cultures (vines, truffles, asparagus, cereals, wood, etc.), the Richelais is a region filled with color and sweetness. The Domaine is part of the Touraine appellation but its geographical location sets it apart.
Since 1985 , François Plouzeau , winemaker-owner, has been operating, vinifying and maturing the estate’s wines and since 1993 , Domaine de la Garrelière has been run biodynamically , with no synthetic chemicals (fertilizers, weedkillers, pesticides or insecticides). Biodynamics is above all a work of caring for the earth. It is about ensuring balance and creating harmonious living conditions between land, plant and environment. We provide, through very specific preparations: MT dung compost, 500 (horn dung), 501 (horn silica) and horsetail, nettle, yarrow, willow, valerian, etc.) natural elements which stimulate the activity of the soil and strengthen the plant. The practice of bio-dynamics on a wine estate makes it possible to produce a wine expressing its terroir, with its particularities.
