Description

Château Fontesteau is located in the Haut-Médoc, between the Atlantic Ocean and the Gironde River, just under 2.5 miles from Pauillac. The original château was built in 1277, and a foundry discovered on the property shows it was an important economic hub during the Iron Age. In 1983, Dominque Fouin purchased the estate and spent years restoring the vineyards and building a new cellar — as well as equipping the ancient château with indoor plumbing. Today, the château has 32 hectares under vine, planted to 58% Cabernet Sauvignon, 37% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc in gravelly soils with a deep limestone base.  All the vines are grown utilizing an integrated pest management system, avoiding whenever possible the use of synthetic products in the vineyard. In the cellar, the guiding hand of Eric Boissenot — the esteemed Bordeaux consultant — creates wines of exceptional balance, precision and class.
