The 2014 Charmail has a ripe, quite opulent (for the vintage) bouquet with raspberry, crushed strawberry and melted tar scents. There is great precision here. The palate is medium-bodied with plush, supple tannin, cloaked in blackberry and raspberry fruit, brown spices and a pleasant chewiness towards the finish. Maybe a little rustic compared to its peers, but I think this will age extremely well.

Description
The name of the estate comes from its 16th century origins, when the Trevey de Charmail family settled in the Médoc. However, the property’s reputation really began to be known from the beginning of the 18th century. Since then vines have always been cultivated here.
Today, Château Charmail occupies a commanding position overlooking the Gironde estuary, on the northern side of the appellation of St Estèphe in the northern Haut-Médoc. Its vineyards are located on gravel crests and are planted to the traditional Bordeaux grape varieties of Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot.
The estate was owned from 1982 by Olivier Sèze, a prominent figure in the region, but he sold it to wine enthusiast Bernard d’Halluin in 2008. However, when the estate changed hands, Sèze stayed on to continue the adventure. He now heads up the winemaking team, contributing his experience, knowledge and expertise to ensure that Château Charmail continues to produce the beautifully balanced wine for which it has become renowned. Both Bernard and Olivier share the same passion and complement each other admirably in the daily running of the estate.
