Located between Beaune and Volnay, Pommard is the place where the Côte de Beaune turns towards the south-east. The village is situated in the middle of the slop, in the heart of its grouping vineyard, which is at an altitude between 240 and 380 meters, facing East / South-East. Highlighted since the middle age, Pommard is known for its fullbobied and tannic red wines, coming from Pinot Noir. The name Pommard would actually go back to ancient times. It seems that it comes from Pomone, the fruits and gardens goddess, who was venerated by first inhabitants of Pommard. In 2004, the village was called Polmareum, to become Pomareum then, derived name from the latin word pomarium which means orchard.
