While Maria Teresa Mascarello is known for her ever-exquisite assemblaggio take on Barolo – as championed by her legendary father, Bartolo – her non-Nebbiolo offerings are just as well-made, and nearly as hard to come by. Mascarello gives their Dolcetto the respect of a proper elevage, and the results are always impressive. Delicate and elegant, the 2022 shows lovely fruit purity and fine balance. Dark red cherry fruit, rose petal, licorice and menthols all take shape in a Dolcetto that offers plenty of vintage richness without losing its super-classic, mid-weight feel. Quite simply, the Maria Teresa Mascarello has taken Dolcetto into the rarified realm of finesse. Make sure to give this a good splash in a decanter to open it up.
