This Italian liqueur has a strong, sweet character and an overt flavor of black licorice. It has been produced since 1870 by distilling aniseed and other aromatic herbs from local farms in the Ascoli Piceno region. The spirit is made with Silvio Meletti’s originally recipe, and is best served with coffee, ice or water; it can also be used in baking, or in cocktails.
