Description

Gaisberg is not only a Premier Cru vineyard, it has a reputation as being one of the most historically relevant sites in all of Kamptal. Hiedler has vines on two terraces which feature a diverse blend of soil including metamorphic/crystalline rock along with maramor, paragneis, and granite. All fruit is hand harvested while the vines are tended with certified sustainable practices. Hiedler uniquely does not block malolactic fermentation, matures the Gaisberg in stainless steel on the lees, and uses minimal sulfur. This distinctive Riesling has a precise nose of cool orchard pears and plums with flint. The palate is finely tuned and relatively subdued with lemon, underripe peach, and damp stones. A fascinating effort with unique texture and depth.
