We are thrilled to showcase our Estate Vineyard for our third Single Vineyard Sparkling release. Starting with the 2014 vintage, we have selected fruit from a single vineyard each year that truly exemplifies its site, wholly and vividly. Our Estate Vineyard, first planted in 1987, comprises the rolling 100 acres surrounding our Château. Planted with 66% Chardonnay and 33% Pinot Noir grapes, this vineyard has been with us since the beginning and annually contributes several vineyard blocks to our tête de cuvée Le Rêve Blanc de Blancs.

Description

Domaine Carneros is a singular winery best known as a small grower-producer of méthode traditionelle sparkling wine, Pinot Noir, estate vineyards, and a breathtakingly beautiful château. Founded by the noble family behind Champagne Taittinger, Claude Taittinger’s search for a worthy U.S. counterpart began in the late 1970s. In 1987 he selected a 138-acre parcel in the heart of Carneros, Napa Valley, wisely choosing Eileen Crane-often referred to as America’s doyenne of Sparkling Wine-to oversee the development of the Taittinger style in Carneros. In 2020, after 33 years, Crane passed the torch to a new CEO, Remi Cohen, whose role carries on the Taittinger tradition of visionary female leadership. Ushering in a new era of Domaine Carneros, Cohen brings two decades of experience in all facets of the wine industry to the château. The heart of Domaine Carneros has always been our méthode traditionelle sparkling wines, with distinctive styles ranging from the classic vintage-dated Brut cuvee to our luxury Le Rêve Blanc de Blancs. In 1992 we added rich, complex Pinot Noir to our portfolio and our passion for sparkling and still wines continues to grow. All of our wines proudly hail from the Carneros appellation, and 100% of our fruit comes from our six estate vineyards comprising 400 acres. As anyone who has driven between Napa and Sonoma can tell you, the Domaine Carneros château is a stunning regional landmark. Join us for tableside service on the terrace or in the salon and savor the spirit of the Northern California wine country.

The Harvest

In general, 2005 was warm and dry. After a winter that was hard but mostly dry, spring was characterized as being very mild with a few warm periods. The flowering period ran from 15th to 19th of June. After a period of concentrated rainfall towards the end of June and the beginning of July was dominated by hot weather, and August by cool weather. The grape harvest, which began on 12 September, was spread over a long period of time, and took place, in mild damp weather. The wind picked up at the end of the harvest, which provided a healthy, abundant crop. The Chardonnays, of excellent quality, are characterized by freshness and their mineral quality, as well as their generous, long finish. The Pinot Noirs give very clean, vinous and ample wines.

Food Pairing

Perfect for a truly special celebration, this Champagne would also go very well with a starter based on seafood, shellfish or fish.
