Description

Chambertin was the field of a certain Monsieur Bertin. “It is said that Bertin planted the same grape varieties in his field as those of the monks of Bèze, and the wine obtained being perfect, the winegrowers no longer named the vineyard thus created except by the name of its owner: it was the “Champ de Bertin” and consequently, the “Chambertin.” The fruits come from three different plots in the Chambertin inclined East as well as from a plot called Larrey, planted North-South, located just at the edge of the wood. The configuration of the plot is not favorable to mechanization, the work of the soil is done with the help of a horse and a plow. The soil is composed of scree particularly rich in limestone. It is planted halfway up the slope on lower Bajocian limestone with entroques and Bajocian marls. At its summit, the vine grows on clayey Bathonian limestone.
