Description

The Nero d’Avola vine variety was imported by Greeks during their stay on the island; the “low-lying” training was also brought into use by them. Typically trained in espalier or tree fashion. It is named after Avola in the far south of Sicily, and its wines are compared to New World Shirazes, with sweet tannins and plum or peppery flavors. It also contributes to Marsala Rubino blends.

The Di Giovanna family has been cultivating organic
vineyards for five generations just outside the small town
of Sambuca di Sicilia in the protected nature reserve
Monte Genuardo. Brothers Gunther & Klaus manage the
family’s 56 hectares of vineyards and winery where their
hand crafted wines are made and bottled. The wines are
made exclusively with estate fruit and all of the vine-yards are certified organic by Suolo e Salute SRL
since 1997.
