Font du Loup translates to ‘fountain of the wolves’. While the vineyards of Font du Loup are at the highest elevations of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, there is an aquifer 150 feet below the surface which feeds the springs from which wolves would come to drink. This aquifer also makes grape farming possible here, where otherwise sandy soils would not retain enough water from rainfall. The elevation, the sandy soil and the deep aquifer (which makes the roots dig deep) contribute to the unique terroir of Château Font du Loup.
