A deliciously savoury and dark-fruited wine using the little-known Blauer Portugieser grape and the product of a single barrel, meaning only 450 bottles were made. A true small production wine, so we’re very happy to be able to offer it at this incredibly accessible price point. The idea of the wines Nibiru make under the Grundstein label is that they are uncomplicated, honest and down to earth; Grundstein translating as ‘groundwork’, or in other words, setting the precedent.

Blauer is an unusual grape; quite thin-skinned but still able to impart a flash of vivid colour to wines that are bright and with a tartness and edge to the fruit. Here the grapes are a split of whole bunch and de-stemmed to balance out the tannic structure, and at a breezy 11.5% alcohol with a little chill this one drinks like a glass of freshly-squeezed blackcurrant juice. Lesser wines made with this grape are prone to ‘corrections’ or manipulations – here taste it in its purest form.
